carrot not dogs

Recipe: 8-10 not dogs

  1. Cut carrots to hot dog bun length and peel them to shape like a hotdog.
  2. In large saucepan combine:
    -2 cups water or veggie broth
    -1 cup soy sauce or coconut aminos
    -2 tbsp worcestershire sauce or vegan substitute
    -2 tbsp liquid smoke (this is what gives it that smokey hot dog flavor)
    -2 tbsp maple syrup (don’t worry they are not sweet)
    -2 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste.
  3. Add carrots to saucepan and boil about 20 minutes (until fork tender, you don’t want them to be mushy)
  4. Remove from heat, let sit 20 minutes.
  5. Remove carrots from liquid and grill (grilling not necessary but adds to the effect)
  6. Put in bun of choice, top with favorite condiments and toppings! Highly recommend caramelized onions, grilled peppers, vinegar cabbage coleslaw, etc.

We originally made these for 4th of July and even the carnivores and non hot dog fans approved!! Upon the first bite, I usually hear people say “Holy shit this tastes like a hot dog!” You seriously can’t tell the difference in taste or texture until you take a bite and see the bright orange of the carrot.
